Pleasure Dome Theatre in partnership with the National Trust present ROSALIE: A new one-woman play inspired by Rosalie Chichester (1865-1949): Scientist, Photographer, Explorer, Collector, and unapologetic eccentric, exploring the pressures of female identity and familial responsibility in Victorian England. Directed by the award-winning Scott Le Crass whose previous single-person performances include ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ROSE, now transferring to London's West End, this newest offering by the acclaimed Pleasure Dome Theatre sheds light on one of the Southwest's most fascinating individuals.

“Pleasure Dome Theatre have worked out how to make a performance fly” - Britishtheatre.com on LEAR

"We hope the audience enjoys this play inspired by the life and travel of Rosalie Chichester. We would love to welcome people to come and visit her former home and wander through the grounds of her estate where she lived and left her legacy for nature to be enjoyed by everyone forever. Arlington Court is open every day 10 am-4 pm and we hope people will come and visit." - The National Trust

Pleasure Dome Theatre is the 'dream come true' of Helena Payne who grew up in Culbone on Exmoor. As a child, she played at the Valley of Rocks fantasising about staging shows there. As an adult working in theatre and opera, she has made it happen. Pleasure Dome has built its reputation performing world-class theatre on "nature's greatest stage." Now they are turning their attention to bringing Exmoor stories to wider audiences across the South West. Their last touring production, Arts Council England-supported LOUISA in partnership with the RNLI, set a high standard and was described by What’s On Taunton as "a show which highlights an extraordinary local legend that everyone within the South West should know."

Past performances by Pleasure Dome have brought praise from young and old alike, "A beautiful evening watching a stunning performance in an amazing location. Brilliant!" - wrote one audience member well over 80, while an 8-year-old remarked the show was "better than a DVD"!

We hope you enjoy this little-known story; a true exploration of the complicated relationship between an extraordinary place and an extraordinary person.
