Up to one hundred new houses could be built on the edge of Crewkerne if plans are approved. The original proposal to start development on land South of Kithill included 150 homes and was refused in 2018 but then approved on Appeal. Outline permission was given by South Somerset District Council in 2018 and now the developer, the Pegasus Planning Group, has submitted detailed plans to the district for how it plans to build on the land.

People in Somerset are being asked for their thoughts on how nuclear fuel is stored at Hinkley Point C. The Environment Agency is running a consultation after EDF requested to change their proposals to store used nuclear fuel in steel and concrete containers rather than submerged in water.

A decision will be taken before the end of the year on whether plans to build new railway stations at Somerton and Langport will go forward. Both Somerton and Langport were served by trains on the line between Taunton and Castle Cary before stations were closed in the mid-1960s. A feasibility study, submitted to the Department for Transport in March, identified two possible locations for the stations, one in Somerton and one near Langport. The land used for Langport's two original stations has been redeveloped, and a 350-metre long railway siding is the only surviving evidence that Somerton once had a train station.

Somerset County Council is asking people to nominate public places that are positive about breastfeeding. As part of World Breastfeeding Awareness Week, the Council is promoting the Positive About Breastfeeding scheme that aims to strengthen support for breastfeeding in commercial, health and community settings.

A popular dog show in South Somerset is set to return for its seventh year next month. The Ham Hill Fun Dog Show takes place on Sunday, August 14th, celebrating dog ownership. The show will feature showing classes and the Ham Hill Challenge. There’ll also be agility demonstrations and have-a-go agility sessions. The show will be raising money for the Friends of Ham Hill and the Ferne Animal Sanctuary in Chard.
