    People in Somerset are being encouraged to use a new website to tell police about public places where they feel or have felt unsafe. Rail passengers are being advised that due to strike action by the RMT, ASLEF, and the TSSA unions, only a limited number of trains will be running in Somerset tomorrow.     People in Somerset are being encouraged to use a new website to tell police about public places where they feel or have felt unsafe. Avon and Somerset Police have introduced Street Safe as part of the Government’s response to tackling violence against women and girls. The site enables people to anonymously pinpoint on a map the location where they feel unsafe.

    Rail passengers are being advised that due to strike action by the RMT, ASLEF, and the TSSA unions, only a limited number of trains will be running in Somerset tomorrow. Passengers are advised to find alternative ways to travel and only use the railways if absolutely necessary. GWR says the majority of its trains will not run and some routes will have no services, including the Heart of Wessex line to Weymouth through Yeovil Pen Mill station. 

    A charity that supports women dealing with addiction and other issues is planning to open more advice centres in Somerset. The Nelson Trust, based in Bridgwater, has helped more than 800 women in Somerset since its launch in 2019. 

    A community project has been launched in Wincanton aimed at reducing isolation and developing new opportunities for employment. Called ‘Good Stuff’ the Balsam Centre has been given the job of running it, with funding over four years from the National Lottery. People in Wincanton are being asked to suggest activities they’d like included in the project.

    Work starts on Thursday this week constructing a new footpath in Carisbrooke Gardens in Yeovil. The scheme’s expected to take up to 18 days to complete.

    One of Yeovil’s oldest pubs has been put up for sale. The Railway Hotel on Hendford Hill opened in 1858 to serve customers using Hendford Railway Station which closed in 1861. The property is advertised with a guide price of £350,000. 

    Yeovil Town are playing a pre-season friendly away at The Avenue Stadium against Dorchester tonight, kick-off is at 7 pm. Meanwhile, tickets for Yeovil’s first game of the new season in the National League away to Scunthorpe are now on sale. The match, on Saturday, August 6th has a 5.20 pm kick-off. Tickets can be bought through the Scunthorpe FC website.
