Police are investigating a suspected arson attack on a mobile home near Yeovil. It happened at around 7 am on Tuesday on Vagg Lane in Chilthorne Domer. Crews from Yeovil, Martock and Somerton attended the blaze after a passer-by sounded the alarm. The mobile home was destroyed. There were no reports of injuries.

Somerset Council is asking people to make the most of their pumpkins this Halloween and help reduce waste. It follows figures showing that 146 tonnes of extra food waste were generated in two weeks after Halloween last year. Somerset Council’s lead member for waste services, Councillor Richard Wilkins, suggests that instead of binning pumpkins, people make pumpkin cheesecake, soup, or roast the seeds.

Somerset Council says it will review the new one-way system at East Quay in Bridgwater following a petition with 5000 signatures calling for it to be changed. Leader of Somerset Council, Councillor Bill Revans, says the scheme has been delivered in line with the approved planning permission, but emphasised the importance of listening to local concerns.

There are just a few days left for people in Yeovil to comment on controversial plans to sell off four public car parks in the town centre. Somerset Council wants to dispose of Court Ash and North Lane car parks, together with the Stars Lane and Box Factory car parks and use the sites for new housing. Paper copies of the consultation are available at Yeovil Library and online at Somerset Council's website. The consultation closes on Sunday, November 2nd.
