Two hundred years ago, on September 27, 1825, history was made when the first passenger-carrying train ran between Stockton and Darlington, marking the birth of today's modern railway. It was the world’s first public railway to use steam locomotives. George Stephenson's Locomotion No. 1 carried more than 400 people and drew crowds of up to 40,000 people.
This momentous event is being celebrated both nationally and internationally. We too at Yeovil Railway Centre are marking the occasion with two days of celebration on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th September.
We will have various attractions across the weekend, and subject to availability, all four of our current locomotives.
