Car Free Route

The Curry Rivel Active Travel Group has been working for several years to create a link within the village to a planned car-free route across the Somerset Levels

Working with landowners and neighbouring parishes, the Group has now secured access to the car-free route, following the purchase of a key piece of land.

The land – bought by Curry Rivel Parish Council - runs between the top of North Street and Sandpits Hill, alongside the A378, linking the two ends of the village, and provides an onward route to Langport via Park Lane, Frog Lane, and Huish Drove, connecting with the Westover Trading Estate.

The car-free route, stretching across the Somerset Levels and Moors, is aimed at taking pedestrians and cyclists away from fast-moving traffic on the A378, and will be a permissive multi-user pathway, where landowners agree to give access to walkers, cyclists and other users without Somerset Council having to acquire further land on which to construct the route.

Meanwhile, Curry Rivel Parish Council says it’s in talks with Somerset Council about securing funding for other pedestrian-related enhancements, to create a more pedestrian-friendly environment in the village
