Community News – Census 2021

Census Day is coming this Sunday March 21st and everybody is involved.

Households across Yeovil and South Somerset are being asked to take part in the 2021 Census. The census is a once-in-a-decade survey that gives the most accurate estimate of all the people and households in England and Wales. It has been carried out every 10 years since 1801, with the only exception being 1941 during the Second World War. The 2021 census will be run predominantly online this time, with all households receiving a letter and written form with a unique access code, allowing you to complete the questionnaire on computers, phones or tablet devices or filling the form in manually and sending it back if you prefer.

Deputy national statistician at Office for National Statistics, Iain Bell says a successful census will ensure that everyone from local government to charities can put services and funding in the places where they are most needed. This could mean things like doctors’ surgeries, schools and new transport routes. Putting the survey online has been done to make it easier for you to take part.
