Residents in Somerset are being encouraged to make sure they’re ready to vote in elections, both local and Parliamentary.
The next scheduled elections in Somerset are for the Police and Crime Commissioner for Avon and Somerset on Thursday, May 2nd.
The PCC is responsible for holding the Chief Constable to account on the public’s behalf. They oversee how crime is being tackled, and aim to make sure the police provide a good service.
You need to make sure your name is on the electoral register to vote in the elections for the Police and Crime Commissioner. Should you have moved house or changed your name, then you need to re-register,
To do this, go to the Electoral Commission website.
You’re also being reminded that to vote in person at a polling station you must provide photo ID. Accepted forms of ID include a passport, driving licence and older person’s concessionary travel pass.
People can apply for a postal vote if they know they will be away on holiday or because of work commitments and can't get to their polling station.
