Ultrafast Broadband

A further eleven-thousand homes and businesses in South Somerset are being provided with ultrafast broadband thanks to extra funding given by the government to Wessex Internet to connect hard-to-reach areas.

It adds three-thousand-six-hundred properties to the number that Wessex Internet are already covering, bringing the total to four-thousand-seven-hundred.

The network will now be extended to more rural communities, including Isle Abbotts, Bower Hinton, Yeabridge, South Petherton and Tintinhull.

The first homes were connected in North Cadbury last year and work continues to build the network in villages that include Hardington Mandeville, Chilthorne Domer, Ashington, Mudford, Yeovil Marsh, Odcombe, and East and West Coker.

Initial planning for the additional properties is underway, and a community engagement programme is being rolled out to ensure residents are fully informed of the plans.
