Warm Coats

This year’s Winter Coat Exchange in Somerset has launched. The scheme will provide a warm coat to anyone needing one.

The scheme is operating from twelve libraries across the county, including, in our area, Yeovil, Street, Shepton Mallet, and Langport.

This year, the coat exchange scheme has partnered with the ‘Buy Nothing New’ campaign run by Keep Britain Tidy. By doing so, it’s helping to support a more green and sustainable Somerset.

Across the 12 libraries taking part, 546 coats have already been donated, with more than 200 finding new owners.

Lead Member for Communities, Housing and Culture at Somerset Council, Councillor Federica Smith-Roberts, says the scheme only works because of the generous donations made by local people. She says all participating libraries are open for donations, just drop your coat, or coats, off during library opening hours. And that coats can be taken without a donation and vice versa. All coats, of any shape or size, are accepted, but donated coats must be of good quality and in a clean condition.
