Winter Coat Exchange Scheme

As the weather turns colder and winter approaches, people in Somerset are being given the opportunity to swap a used coat for another coat.

It’s part of Somerset Council’s Libraries service re-launched Winter Coat Exchange scheme, designed to support local people by providing easy access to warm coats for everyone in need.

Somerset Libraries' decision to relaunch the Coat Exchange scheme comes after a successful appeal last year, during which more than one thousand coats were donated, with over 900 coats handed to new owners.

    - You can take a coat to your local participating library without making a donation

    - You can donate a coat without taking one away in exchange

    - Coats can be of any shape or size, to fit an adult or child and must be of good quality and clean condition.

Lead Member for Communities, Housing and Culture at Somerset Council, Councillor Federica Smith-Roberts said “Libraries are more than places for reading and studying, they are warm, welcoming, social spaces, real community hubs, and I hope that lots of people will donate coats that others can benefit from.”

For more information and to participate in the Coat Exchange scheme, please visit your nearest participating library.
