People who live in Cavalier Way in Wincanton are facing a 400 per cent increase in leasehold fees. Some residents are being asked to pay four thousand pounds each year in lease fees rather than the one thousand pounds they pay at present. RMG, the company that manages and maintains Cavalier Way in Wincanton, says long-standing issues have been identified with the site, hence the reason for lease charges rising so steeply.
Somerset Fire and Rescue Service says the rate of false alarm calls it receives shows no sign of slowing down. The service receives sixteen false alarm calls on average every day, mainly due to automatic alarms going off accidentally or intentionally. In the last five years, Somerset Fire and Rescue Service has been alerted to 55,000 fire alarms, out of which just 42 were genuine.

The Council rejected the application on the grounds that the external illuminated sign would affect the character of its historic surroundings. The plans have now been passed to Somerset Council for a final decision.
