Police are appealing for witnesses to an accident in Yeovil in which a man riding an e-bike was injured and later died in hospital. It happened on Ilchester Road last Saturday evening at around 7.30 pm. If you saw what happened or have dashcam footage, you’re asked to call the police non-emergency number 101.

People who live in Cavalier Way in Wincanton are facing a 400 per cent increase in leasehold fees. Some residents are being asked to pay four thousand pounds each year in lease fees rather than the one thousand pounds they pay at present. RMG, the company that manages and maintains Cavalier Way in Wincanton, says long-standing issues have been identified with the site, hence the reason for lease charges rising so steeply.

Somerset Fire and Rescue Service says the rate of false alarm calls it receives shows no sign of slowing down. The service receives sixteen false alarm calls on average every day, mainly due to automatic alarms going off accidentally or intentionally. In the last five years, Somerset Fire and Rescue Service has been alerted to 55,000 fire alarms, out of which just 42 were genuine.

Police are investigating a burglary and assault in Yeovil and seeking the public’s help to identify a man in connection with the incident. It happened on Saturday, March 1st, at around 5.05 pm, when an unknown man assaulted a woman and stole an electrical appliance from a shop in Western Avenue. A CCTV image of the man can be viewed on the Avon and Somerset Police website.

A new micro-pub opens in Chard next week. The Somerset Inn in Fore Street will specialise in selling different varieties of cider and opens for orders on Thursday, April 17th.

Ilminster Town Council has recommended refusal of plans to put an illuminated sign on the front of a new convenience store on Silver Street. The Council rejected the application on the grounds that the external illuminated sign would affect the character of its historic surroundings. The plans have now been passed to Somerset Council for a final decision.
