Yeovil Police station, closed now for 5 years, will reopen within the next two years, but without a new custody suite. The promise was made by Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner Clare Moody speaking at a public meeting in the town. The PCC said they would start refurbishing Yeovil Police station next year, but didn't have the money to reinstate a custody suite. .
Up to 60 jobs could be created in Crewkerne if plans for a new care home are approved. LNT Care Developments Ltd want to build the care home on Blacknell Lane, between the National Grid sub-station and the Merriott Plastics industrial unit. It would form part of the Taylor Wimpey Wool Gardens Development that will eventually deliver 635 new homes. A planning application has been submitted to Somerset Council with a decision expected by Spring of next year.
Bristol Airport has been told that it needs to make sure it's parking system is fair. It follows an incident in which a woman motorist was fined £100 for driving for 56 seconds the wrong way down a one-way road. Lorna Howarth says she was confused while looking for a car park to pick-up a friend. The fine has now been lifted but legal expert Gary Rycroft says her driving error should not have led to such a large fine.
A coffee morning in Chard has been held to raise money for a cancer charity. The event at The Good Shepherd in Furnham raised £416 with all the proceeds going to Macmillan Cancer Care.
