Bruton Primary School is the latest school to have a barrier installed outside to prevent parents from parking when dropping off and picking up their children. The installation, funded through the government’s Safer Streets initiative and implemented by the Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership, aims to encourage parents to get active and walk rather than drive their children to school.

A man has appeared in court charged with being drunk and disorderly at Yeovil Hospital. Magistrates were told that Ashley Barnard from Warminster had been on a drinking binge when he turned up at A&E, laid on the floor preventing other patients from coming in and out, and was obstructive to security staff. Barnard was fined £40 with £85 costs.

A Somerset woman, who set up a Bowel Cancer charity in memory of her brother who died of the disease, has welcomed the decision to lower the age for screening for bowel cancer to 50. Abby Morris set up 'The Bowel Movement' after her brother, Benjamin Millard, died at 33. She says lowering the age for screening for bowel cancer is good, but that more needs to be done.

A veteran of World War Two in Castle Cary, John Maskell, has been awarded the Legion d’Honneur Medal by the French Government. The award is France’s highest military and civil distinction and has been given to John in recognition of his outstanding service during the D-Day landings.

Yeovil-based mental health charity, Well Be, has teamed up with Barolo Lounge in Yeovil to launch a Chatty Cafe. The initiative, aimed at combating loneliness, offers a space for people to meet and enjoy conversation. The Chatty Cafe is held every Monday from 1.30 pm to 2.30 pm at Barolo Lounge on the High Street in Yeovil.
