The projected cost of refurbishing Yeovil’s Octagon Theatre has risen to 29.1 million pounds, a rise of £6 million pounds on the original estimate. South Somerset District Council wants to increase the seating capacity of the Octagon from 622 to 900 and introduce balcony seating. A fly tower above the stage is also planned along with two boutique-style cinemas, a dance studio, larger dressing rooms, along with a new café and restaurant area. South Somerset District Council’s Executive meets next week to consider recommending the budget increase.

A new NHS-funded diagnostic centre for testing for eye disorders is soon to open in Yeovil. The centre, to be built in an empty shop unit in the Quedam shopping centre in Yeovil, is aimed at providing better eye care to people in Yeovil and South Somerset.

A Wincanton man has been fined £173 for driving at 97mph on the A303 near Sparkford. Joshua Nye pleaded guilty to the charge and was told to pay court costs of £90 and had five penalty points added to his licence.

Garages in Somerset say they're seeing a big rise in the price of second-hand cars. Dealers say prices went up by more than ten per cent in the last six months.

Police are appealing for help in identifying two boys in connection with an assault in Yeovil. It happened in Middle Street in the early hours of Sunday, January 30th. The incident was recorded on CCTV and the video of boys can be viewed on the Avon and Somerset Police website. If you’re able to identify who they are, you’re asked to call the Police non-emergency number 101.
