International Air Day at RNAS Yeovilton has again been cancelled for this year. In a statement, the Royal Navy says the events have been called off for ‘commercial reasons’ but that it’s hoped it will be back in 2023. This is the third year in a row that International Air Day at Yeovilton has been cancelled.

A van has been damaged in a suspected arson attack in Martock. It happened in the early hours of yesterday. Somerset Fire and Rescue Service say the vehicle was fifty percent damaged by fire, and the cause is believed to have been deliberate.

A fresh call has been made for national action to deal with the risk of pollution from phosphates on the Somerset Levels. In a new report, Somerset’s local authorities say the government needs to intervene to resolve the issue that has led to decisions being delayed with planning applications to build new homes in all areas of the county.

Public health officials in Somerset are urging people to remain cautious in the face of rising numbers of Covid cases. At the moment, case numbers in Somerset are above the national average. Meanwhile, local hospitals are reminding people that restrictions on visiting hospitals remain in place.

An Ilminster woman has set up two collection points in the town for donations of items for Ukraine. Sarah Tricker is asking for first aid bandages, blankets, baby clothes, food, and pet food. The places to take items are Ilminster Football Club, the Tesco store in Ilminster and Penhalagans the hairdresser on Silver Street in Ilminster.
