The go-ahead has been given for work to start on a major housing scheme in Crewkerne. The development on the Crewkerne Key Site, alongside the A30 Yeovil Road, has been many years in the planning. Now, South Somerset District Council has given Taylor Wimpey final approval to build 635 homes on the land. The first phase will see 110 homes built, together with a signal-controlled road junction for access to the town centre and Crewkerne railway station.

People in South Somerset could be amongst the first in the country to trial a camera you swallow to get a diagnosis for cancer. The miniature imaging technology, known as a colon capsule endoscopy and no bigger than a pill, can provide a diagnosis in hours.

South Somerset District Council says during the pandemic it’s been dealing with an increase in reports of dangerous dogs on the loose. The Council is reminding owners that under the Dangerous Dog Act, to allow a dog to be dangerously out of control, causing fear or apprehension to the public, is a criminal offence.

Four new eco-themed homes are being built in Chard as part of a groundbreaking training project in support of apprenticeships. The properties on land behind Chard Working Men’s Club use sustainable materials and green energy and are being constructed by building apprentices, with supervision provided by on-site experienced builders.

A South Petherton motorist has been fined £87 with costs after pleading guilty to a speeding charge. Darrel Mounty of Flax Court Road, South Petherton, was caught travelling at 39 mph in a 30 zone.
