A man with a knife has carried out a robbery at a shop in Yeovil. Yeovil Town Council has voted against supporting a planned new Costa Coffee in the town. Police in Somerset have started using drone technology to tackle rural crime. South Somerset has moved towards a greener future following a slight drop in carbon dioxide emissions. Chard Museum is planning to buy the building it uses to house the museum collection.

A man with a knife has carried out a robbery at a shop in Yeovil. It happened at the McColl’s store on Glenthorne Avenue on Monday 9th August but the police have only just released details. They say a shop worker suffered grazing to his arm from the knife after the robber pushed him to the ground and made off with items. The man they want to trace is described as white, around 6 feet tall and was wearing a grey hoody. Police would like to hear from people driving in Glenthorne Avenue on the evening of Monday, 9th August, who may have dashcam footage of a man matching that description.

Yeovil Town Council has voted against supporting a planned new Costa Coffee in the town. The coffee chain wants to build the 'drive thru' outlet in the Morrisons car park on Lysander Road. The town council objections include concerns about cars using the facility, creating air pollution and headlights from queueing cars at night shining directly into homes on Lysander Road. A final decision on the planning application will be made by South Somerset District Council.

Police in Somerset have started using drone technology to tackle rural crime. The ‘aerial camera’ is helping with a crackdown on Hare Coursing and to identify stolen equipment.

South Somerset has moved towards a greener future following a slight drop in carbon dioxide emissions. The latest figures show that CO2 emissions in the Yeovil area dropped by 1.4% in 2019, compared to the previous year. Across Somerset as a whole, emissions dropped by 3.1% in the same period.

Chard Museum is planning to buy the building it uses to house the museum collection. Godworthy House on the High Street is owned by South Somerset District Council and would be bought on a long lease under a Community Asset Transfer at a cost of £50,000. A special meeting of Chard Museum members will be held on Saturday, 4th September, to discuss the purchase.
