Police are appealing for witnesses to an accident near Langport at the weekend in which a man died. It happened on the B3168 at Westport on Saturday night at around 8.40 pm. Police say the man’s car, a black Honda Civic, left the road and hit a building. They’d like to hear from anyone who saw or, who has dashcam footage, of a black Honda Civic being driven from Curry Rival to Westport at around 8.40 pm on Saturday night.

The Somerset Surviving Winter Appeal, launched in November, has already raised 100-thousand pounds. Somerset Community Foundation says it's distributing funds across the county and aims to support over 500 vulnerable older people. The annual appeal encourages pensioners to donate some or all of their Winter Fuel Payment if they don't need the money themselves.

A group in Chard is putting together boxes of food to give to local families in the greatest need this Christmas. Councillor Cath Morrison is one of the organisers of the Chard ‘Christmas in a Box’ scheme. She says around 100 local families will be given food boxes this Christmas.

Two long-serving firefighters in Chard have retired. Gary Knight has stepped down after 38 years and Neil Hazell after 25 years at Chard fire station.

There’s been a change to the kick-off time for the Third Round FA Cup clash between Yeovil and Bournemouth at Huish Park on Saturday, January 8th. The kick-off will now be at 5.30 pm and not 3 pm as previously advertised. The Club says ticket details for the Bournemouth game will be announced shortly.
