A Yeovil woman has appeared in court charged with possessing explosive substances, used to make gunpowder. Appearing at Taunton Crown Court, Erin Foley of Eastland Road pleaded guilty to knowingly having in her possession materials for making an explosive substance. She also pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm without a certificate. Foley was remanded in custody and will appear for sentencing on July 22.
The latest attempt to provide additional car parking in Crewkerne town centre has been delayed by planning concerns. South Somerset District Council has earmarked £210,000 for creating a new car park on the former Millers Garage site on East Street in Crewkerne. But at a meeting of the Council’s district executive, it was decided not to allocate the funding until a planning application to convert the site to a car park had been submitted and approved.
Yeovil has been chosen to run a pilot scheme in which health checks are given to Ukrainian refugees. The first clinic session was held at the weekend with other towns opening clinics as more Ukrainians arrive in Somerset.
More funding is being given to the family support organization Yeovil-4-Families. Yeovil-4-Families provided helped around 200 struggling families last year and are being given an additional four hundred thousand pounds by South Somerset District Council to take on extra work.
