The number of people who visited accident and emergency at Yeovil Hospital in September was at an all-time high. Just under 5,700 patients attended for advice and treatment last month; an increase of 3 percent on August’s figure and up 7 percent on September last year. Yeovil Hospital is asking people to consider calling NHS 111, visiting a pharmacist or using one of Somerset’s minor injuries units before attending A&E at Yeovil Hospital.

The B&M store in Yeovil has dropped a planning application to build a new garden centre at the rear of its store on Lysander Road. The supermarket had planned to spend £200,000 on the project with the creation of up to six new jobs. The company has given no reason for the decision to withdraw the application to South Somerset District Council.

People in Somerset are being reminded of a crisis fund that can support them when they're in dire financial circumstances. The fund is for one-off support for people for things such as replacing a broken fridge, car repairs or food when they've fallen on hard times. The fund is managed by Somerset Community Council.

A Yeovil motorist has been fined £384 and had six points put on his licence for driving at 99 mph on the A303 near Wincanton. Zaidoon Zakaria, of Swallowcliffe Gardens in Yeovil, pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared before magistrates in the town.

Organisations that specialise in electrical waste are calling on people in Somerset to recycle unused electric items, including mobile phones, so their materials can be reused. A study has found that more than 20 million unused but working electrical items are currently being stored in UK homes.
