    Plans have been turned down to build 130 new homes in Henstridge. South Somerset District Council’s Area East Committee rejected the application from Barratt David Wilson Homes to develop land next to the A357 Stalbridge Road on the grounds of inadequate parking.

    Projects that help tackle crime and antisocial behaviour in Somerset are now eligible for new funding. The Avon and Somerset Police Crime Commissioner has made £60,000 available to local groups to help tackle crime. Details can be found on the Somerset Community Foundation's website.

    A Somerton woman has been fined for speeding on the M5. Antonia Baxter of Cherry Close was caught driving at 92 mph. She was fined £80 and had 4 penalty points added to her licence.

    The Bishop's Palace in Wells has set up a 'Swan Cam' after one of its swans laid eggs. Grace, as she’s called, can be seen with her partner Gabriel in the family on the Bishop's Palace website. 

    Young people in Castle Cary have been testing their skills in a bid to become skateboarding champions. Free coaching sessions were held at the town’s skatepark at the weekend for the new hopeful. 11-year-old Lottie said she started skating after watching teenager Sky Brown win a Bronze medal at the Olympics.

    Yeovil-based army veteran Jules Allen is celebrating after winning silver at the Invictus Games. Jules was competing for the UK in the wheelchair rugby and lost in the final to the USA.
