The Leader of Somerset County Council, Councillor Bill Revans, has welcomed the announcement that the former Royal Ordnance Factory site at Bridgwater now called Gravity could be one of the government’s new Investment Zones. A motorcyclist has died after his machine collided with a car near Chard at the weekend. The Leader of Somerset County Council, Councillor Bill Revans, has welcomed the announcement that the former Royal Ordnance Factory site at Bridgwater now called Gravity could be one of the government’s new Investment Zones. The site, measuring 616 acres, has been identified as a Gigafactory, creating up to 7,500 new jobs. Investment Zone status would mean businesses at the site paying lower taxes and facing fewer planning regulations.

A motorcyclist has died after his machine collided with a car near Chard at the weekend. The accident, involving a blue Fiat Panda car and Triumph Sprint motorcycle happened at the junction of A30 with the B3167 at Cricket St Thomas at around 3.30 pm on Saturday. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash cam footage is asked to call the police non-emergency number 101.

No trains are running out of Penn Mill Station to Weymouth this week due to engineering work on the line south of Dorchester. Trains arriving from Bristol will terminate at Penn Mill with passengers completing the journey to Weymouth by bus.

Police are appealing for the public’s help after a man was assaulted by three other men in Yeovil town centre. It happened on Sunday, September 4th, at around 9.30 pm, near the bandstand in Lower Middle Street. Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call the police non-emergency number 101.

A Sherborne man has been jailed after pleading guilty to two charges of entering a property as a trespasser with intent to steal. Appearing at Bournemouth Crown Court, Glen Holden of Clanfield in Sherborne, previously a postman in Sherborne employed by Royal Mail, was jailed for sixteen months and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £228.
