    A new lounge bar and café could be opened in Yeovil. Plans have been submitted for a large lounge on the corner of the High Street and King George Street in premises currently occupied by TSB and Café Nero. The application to South Somerset District Council is from Loungers UK Limited, which operates 185 sites across the country through two brands The Lounges and The Cosy Club.

    Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner, Mark Shelford is appealing for volunteers to work at local custody suites. It’s to carry out checks, working in the role of an independent observer. 

    New research has shown that 70 percent of young people in Somerset claim to have experienced racial abuse while in education. The group ‘Diverse Young Somerset’ sampled a group of 13 to 20 years olds who also spoke of feeling disadvantaged because of their backgrounds and feeling depressed in their daily lives. 

    Hundreds of trees have been given to farmers in Somerset to help tackle climate change. It's part of a wider initiative with the Woodland Trust, to plant ninety thousand trees across the whole of the South West. 

    Adult care businesses in Somerset are being offered help to recover from the pandemic. It is part of a scheme, funded by a six-million-pound economic recovery fund from Somerset County Council. Care companies can ask for 1-to-1 advice sessions and join in with workshops, to develop new business skills.

    A new share and repair shop has opened in Ilminster. Green Ilminster is encouraging anyone with broken tools and appliances to take them to the shop on Silver Street to get them repaired. 

    Olly Murs won't be coming to Somerset this summer. The singer was due to perform at a ‘Live in Somerset’ concert in Taunton in August but has cancelled due to having had a knee operation.
