The site of Glastonbury Festival is being turned into a campsite for the summer. With the festival cancelled again this year due to Covid 19, Michael Eavis has decided to run Worthy Farm as a family-friendly campsite under the name Worthy Pastures. Meanwhile, carnival clubs say their finances have hit rock bottom due to no Festival this year. Alan Dallimore, who helps organise the Somerset carnival circuit, says clubs would earn income by providing stewards for the festival and that without this money they’re struggling to pay the costs of building carnival floats.
A car park in Chard has received an 'eco-friendly' facelift. A new type of surfacing and low-energy lighting has been installed at the Boden Street car park. The new parking surface is aimed at reducing the risk of flooding and the low-energy lighting at cutting carbon emissions. Staying in Chard, and a road in the town has closed to traffic from today. Elizabeth Way will be shut for five weeks for resurfacing. Access to properties and businesses will be kept open.
Somerset Wildlife Trust is working with the Diocese of Bath and Wells to help people understand the wildlife in churchyards. "Wilder Churches" events are being held on zoom, with the next one is this coming Wednesday, to encourage people to learn more.
