A man has been left seriously injured after a van and a mobility scooter collided in Chard at the weekend. The accident, involving a silver Volkswagen Caddy van, happened on Furnham Road in Chard at around 10 o’clock Saturday morning. Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward. If you can help, please call the police non-emergency number 101.

Police are appealing for information after an incident at a bank in Yeovil. The bank in Middle Street contacted the police at around 2 pm last Friday to say a man had entered the branch and made threats to carry out a robbery. He then left the bank on foot. He’s described as aged late 30’s to early 40’s of a slim build, around 6ft tall, and was wearing dark clothing, a beanie-style hat and carrying a black rucksack. Police are keen to hear from anyone who saw a man matching that description in the area of Middle Street in Yeovil at around 2 pm last Friday or who may have relevant dashcam footage.

Somerset Waste Partnership says it's seen a 35% increase in cardboard being put out for recycling, due to an increase in online shopping. It’s asking households with excess cardboard to take it to a recycling centre or to put it out for collecting over a number of weeks

Sarah Crew has been appointed as the new Chief Constable of Avon and Somerset Police. She joined the force 27 years ago and was appointed as Acting Chief Constable in July following the departure of Andy Marsh . The Police and Crime Commissioner Mark Shelford says building trust and improving crime prevention will be the two main priorities for the new Chief Constable.

The Christmas lights in Wincanton were switched on at the weekend. The display carries the message of recycle, re-use and shop locally.

New members are wanted by an 11th-century re-enactment group in Somerset. ‘Conquest Wessex’ re-enact conflicts from between 1056 to 1254. They say having more volunteers would enable them to more accurately portray real events.

Plans have been submitted to convert a building into a health and wellness centre in Bruton. If approved by South Somerset District Council, the building on Patwell Street would have two treatment rooms, studio space, café, and space for an e-bike rental business.
