Somerset County Council says there’ll be no waste collections and that schools and Further Education colleges will close on Monday for the Queen's funeral. Great Western Railway which runs services through Castle Cary and Bruton stations has introduced extra trains. Patients with appointments at Yeovil Hospital on Monday have been advised to plan as if the appointment is going ahead. Police are investigating the shooting of a cat in Yeovil...and more.

Somerset County Council says there’ll be no waste collections and that schools and Further Education colleges will close on Monday for the Queen's funeral. Services like social care will operate as normal but most council buildings will close, including public libraries. Recycling centres, including the one in Yeovil, will close. Waste collections will take a place a day later throughout the week. Planned weddings, however, will still take place. A national moment of reflection will be held at 8 pm on Sunday the day before the funeral. People are encouraged to mark the occasion in their homes, on doorsteps, and with neighbours by observing a one-minute silence.

Great Western Railway which runs services through Castle Cary and Bruton stations has introduced extra trains from today to cope with the high numbers of passengers travelling into London during the Queen's lying in state and the state funeral.

Patients with appointments at Yeovil Hospital on Monday have been advised to plan as if the appointment is going ahead. The hospital says it will be contacting people to either confirm the appointment or, if needed, to schedule it to a new date.

Police are investigating the shooting of a cat in Yeovil. It happened in the area around Abbots Way off Larkhill Road on Sunday, September 4th. It’s thought the shot was fired from either a BB gun or an air rifle. Anyone with information is asked to call the police non-emergency number 101.

A pub manager in Yeovil is calling for a change in VAT for it to be fairer to businesses in the food and drink sector. Manager of the William Dampier in Lower Middle Street, James Currell, says it’s unfair that supermarkets can charge zero VAT on food while pubs have to charge 20 per cent. He wants the Chancellor to create tax equality between pubs and supermarkets.
