Yeovil College has been downgraded to ‘Requiring Improvement’ following an inspection by Ofsted.  Previously, the College had been rated as ‘Good’. The inspection, carried out in early March, criticises the College for not giving timely information to governors and says it needs to do better for high-needs learners. It also says it needs to do better to ensure all learners have a secure knowledge of the signs and dangers associated with radicalisation. In their report, Ofsted praised teachers for the way they deployed their specialist knowledge, and say that most learners have a good experience studying at Yeovil College.

Yeovil Town says season ticket sales are fifty per cent up on this time last year. It follows confirmation on the Companies House website that Scott Priestnall has stood down as a Director, and that Yeovil businessman, Martin Hellier, now has ownership of the Club.

Police are appealing for witnesses to a road accident in Yeovil in which a man needed hospital treatment for facial injuries. It involved a car and motorcycle and happened on Stiby Road at around 9 pm on Wednesday, May 17th. Police say a man was later arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent. If you can help the police, you’re asked to call the non-emergency number 101.

Ilminster-based, Powrmatic, makers of heating and air conditioning equipment, has been sold for an undisclosed sum. The new owners of the business are the Carver Group, based in the West Midlands.

A campaign’s been launched to lower the speed limit through Sea near Ilminster. The Sea Community Action Group want the current limit of 60 mph on the A 3037 cut to 40 and then cut again to 30 through Sea itself.

A new skate park in Yew Tree Park in Yeovil has been officially opened. An opening event was held yesterday featuring demonstrations, music and competitions.
