A family from Crewkerne has launched a legal challenge against a decision by Somerset County Council to close their daughter's school. The Council announced last month that it would be ending the 3-tier school system in the Crewkerne and Ilminster area and as part of the changes, Misterton First School will shut. Parent, Taylor Larcombe, says they’re taking legal action because they believe the way in which the closure decision was made was wrong.

It’s claimed the Covid pandemic has led to people in South Somerset putting off having cancer treatment because they're misdiagnosing their own symptoms or worried that their GP is too busy. The Cancer Lead for Somerset, Dr Angela Beattie is urging people to not assume their symptoms could be coronavirus. She says even though doctors are extra busy at the moment, people with concerns should go to see their GP.

Police have released details of an incident in which a man was headbutted in an unprovoked attack in Yeovil. It happened in Sherborne Road on Friday, March 26th at around 8 pm. Police say the attacker demanded money but left the scene empty-handed. Police have reviewed CCTV from around the area but would still like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident.

A Martock woman has appeared in court for possession of cannabis. Kiara Malik of Stowers Row pleaded guilty to the offence and was given a 3-months conditional discharge and told to pay a £22 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

Bright blue bags are being delivered to thousands of homes across South Somerset as the district gets ready for a new form of recycling. It’s part of Somerset Waste Partnership’s roll-out of ‘Recycle More’, which will see more items recycled weekly at the kerbside and refuse collections moved from fortnightly to once every 3-weeks.
