Avon and Somerset Police are warning people to be cautious about dating websites. They say dating scams, where fraudsters gain people's trust and then seek to take money from them, have led to millions of pounds being lost in the force area.
GWR and South West Railways, who run train services through South Somerset, are asking passengers to still wear face coverings after today, even though the legal requirement to do so in England has ended.
Work’s due to begin replacing traffic signals at road junctions and pedestrian crossings in Yeovil. The work should start on Monday, February 14th. On Lysander Road, new signals are being installed at West Hendford, Pine Tree Avenue, and Forest Hill. New signals are also being installed at pedestrian crossings on Lyde Road adjacent to Herblay Close, on Sherborne Road adjacent to St Michael’s Avenue and Ilchester Road opposite Yeovil College. Temporary signals will operate at the junctions and crossings during the work. Pedestrian and cycling routes will not be affected.
The RSPCA in Somerset is warning about the dangers to birds of using glue traps. Glue traps are used to catch rats but birds can get stuck on them. The RSPCA’s encouraging people not to set glue traps despite them being legal because of the dangers they pose to wildlife and even pets.
Plans have been submitted to build a modern farmyard close to the Newt Hotel near Castle Cary. The Emily Estate says it’ll replace a redundant farmyard no longer in use at Lodge Hill, that will be demolished. The applicants are also asking permission to build an access bridge across the A359. The plans can be inspected at the Market House in Castle Cary this Saturday, 10 am to 1 pm.
A Christmas tree collection scheme has raised £5,000 for St Margaret's Hospice. People made a donation to St Margaret’s in return for having their Christmas tree picked up and taken away for recycling.
