    People in South Somerset who smoke or have smoked in the past are being invited to have their lungs checked. Somerset Waste Partnership says any kerbside and re-cycling collections missed on Tuesday this week will now be made next Monday 10th January. Police are seeking witnesses to an incident in which vandals smashed a car’s rear windscreen in Sherborne.     People in South Somerset who smoke or have smoked in the past are being invited to have their lungs checked. The SWAG Cancer Alliance, which covers Somerset, Wiltshire, Avon and Gloucestershire has been given funding to provide CT scans to people most at risk of developing lung cancer, aged from 55 to 74. 

    Somerset Waste Partnership says any kerbside and re-cycling collections missed on Tuesday this week will now be made next Monday 10th January. Somerset Waste Partnership say the problems are caused by staff absence due to Covid. They advise households to use recycling sites for 'dry' items and to home compost food waste. 

    Police are seeking witnesses to an incident in which vandals smashed a car’s rear windscreen in Sherborne. It happened in Half Moon Street at around 11.45 pm on Sunday, January 2nd. Anyone with information is asked to call the police non-emergency number 101

    There’s been a big increase in the number of young people in Somerset needing help from the NSPCC. The charity says since the start of the pandemic, calls from young people for support and advice have doubled. 

    £1,500 has been raised for the Somerset and Dorset Air Ambulance with a tractor run through South Somerset. 75 tractors took part in the New Years Day event that travelled through South Petherton, Lopen, Dinnington, Crewkerne, West Chinnock, Chiselborough, Ham Hill, Stoke-sub-Hamdon, Martock and ended at Thorney Lakes near Langport.

    Motorists are being advised of delays on Nash Lane in Yeovil on Friday 7th January. Somerset County Council say the road will be partially blocked for tree felling for most of the day.
