Nearly 150 roads are being resurfaced this summer in Somerset. Ilminster Tennis Club has been named Somerset Tennis Club of the Year 2024 by the Lawn Tennis Association. The York Inn in Churchinford has been named the pub of the year by the Countryside Alliance...and more.

Nearly 150 roads in Somerset are to be resurfaced this summer as Somerset Council and its new highways contractor embark on a lengthy programme of repairs. While most of the work will focus on rural roads, the programme also includes main roads and roads linked to major housing developments. Roads to be resurfaced in our area include the A30 Yeovil Road between Crewkerne and Haselbury Plucknett, also Creech Hill Road and Park Wall in Bruton, Long Hill and School Hill in Cucklington, East Street, Foldhill Lane and Stoke Road in Martock, Common Road, Moor Lane and Shaftesbury Lane in Wincanton. A full list of all roads to be resurfaced in Somerset this summer can be viewed on the Somerset Council website.

Relatives of people in a Chard care home, saved from closure by a private company, have been speaking of their relief. Sunnymeade was due to close earlier in the year after Somerset Council said it could no longer afford to keep it open. It has since been taken over by new owners, Agincare, who say it’s business as usual for the residents.

Ilminster Tennis Club has been named Somerset Tennis Club of the Year 2024 by the Lawn Tennis Association. The accolade is given to clubs based on their links to the community and how accessible they are to the public.

A Somerset pub has been named the pub of the year by the Countryside Alliance. The York Inn in Churchinford was given the award at an event held at the House of Lords after having already won the regional trophy.

The Ladies Women’s Guild in Chard is closing after 42 years due to a lack of members.
