A pub in West Coker, which has been closed for two years, is to reopen under its old name. There are just three weeks left in which to use paper £20 and £50 banknotes and Council buildings and some Churches in local towns across South Somerset are again open today for people to pay tribute to the Queen by signing a book of condolence.

Council buildings and some Churches in local towns across South Somerset are again open today for people to pay tribute to the Queen by signing a book of condolence. Meanwhile, Chard Town Council is to show the Queen’s funeral on a big screen in The Guildhall in Chard, next Monday, September 19th.
A pub in West Coker, which has been closed for two years, is to reopen under its old name. Previously called ‘Inn The Square’ the pub’s been given its original name from the sixteen hundreds of The New Inn. Owner, Nick Else, who’s currently refurbishing the premises, aims to be open for business by Friday, September 30th.
There are just three weeks left in which to use paper £20 and £50 banknotes. The Bank of England has issued a reminder that after September 30th these banknotes will no longer be legal tender. It’s encouraging anyone with these banknotes to spend them or deposit them at a bank or a Post Office. The Bank of England says that while the majority of paper £20 and £50 banknotes have been replaced with new polymer versions, there is still £6 billion worth of paper £20 banknotes featuring economist Adam Smith and over £8 billion worth of paper £50 banknotes featuring entrepreneur Matthew Boulton and engineer James Watt in circulation.
