Yeovil MP Marcus Fysh has hit out at the government for not delivering on its promise to lift all lockdown restrictions on June 21st. Speaking in the House of Commons, Mr Fysh said the rise in infections of the Indian or Delta variant was not a reason for panic. He said he did not believe the scientists and claimed the government had lost credibility. He would not be surprised, he said, if people stop following the government’s advice. Mr Fysh fears that delaying the lifting of restrictions has increased the chances of a lockdown by the autumn that would run through the winter and into the spring of next year.

A firm of local house removers says it’s being held back because of a shortage of HGV drivers. Britannia Lanes says with stamp duty soon to return people are desperate to complete property purchases and move in. Angus Russell of Britannia Lanes says the driver shortage is putting not only his business under pressure but also other removal companies.

Police are asking for help in tracing two springer spaniel dogs stolen in North Cheriton near Templecombe. The dogs are both brown and white in colour and were taken from the home of their owner earlier this month. Anyone with information is asked to call the non-emergency number 101.

A house in Compton Dundon near Somerton has been damaged by fire. The fire service says the blaze in Compton Street was accidental. No one was hurt.

The clubhouse at South Petherton Bowling Club is in line to be extended. South Somerset District Council is being asked to give permission to replace the existing toilet and equipment store with a new building.
