Police are appealing for witnesses to an incident in which a man was attacked and robbed in Yeovil town centre. He was set upon by two other men in Silver Street, opposite St John’s Church, in the early hours of Saturday, May 7th. The man suffered head injuries and was treated in hospital. The two men who carried out the attack are described as aged about 18 years, one was white and the other was black. If you witnessed the attack or have phone or dashcam footage of two men in Yeovil town centre in the early hours of Saturday, May 7th matching the description, then please call the police non-emergency number 101.

Somerset's Liberal Democrats have voted for the current leader of the Lib Dem group on the County Council, Councillor Bill Revans, to stay on in the role. The Lib Dems won control of the County Council at the local elections earlier this month and will run the new Somerset Unitary Council that comes into being in April next year. Councillor Revans will be formally voted into office at the annual meeting of Somerset County Council, next week.

Part of Middle Street in Yeovil town centre has been cordoned-off following concern about the safety of an empty shop building. The area includes the former British Heart Foundation store. South Somerset District Council says it's assessing the buildings’ stability and the area is likely to remain closed for at least two weeks.

Cider makers are expecting a bumper crop of apples this year thanks to a mild spring. They say it's too early to know what this year's crop will taste like, but numbers are likely to be good.

Yeovil Town Council holds its annual meeting tonight. Members will vote to fill the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor for the coming year. The meeting takes place at the Baptist Church on South Street. It’s open to the public and starts at 7:00 pm.

This year’s Ilminster Town Crier competition has been won by Phil Northcott from Penzance in Cornwall. He beat eleven other town criers, impressing the judges with his vocal virtuosity.
