Almost every child in Somerset attending primary school for the first time from September has been offered a place at one of their top three choices. Somerset Council says ninety-four percent of applicants have been given a place at their first choice school. Four percent have been given a place at their second-choice school, and 0.5 percent have a place at their third-choice school. Those who applied online will receive their offer by email. Those who applied in writing will receive an offer letter through the post.

The next phase of Covid 19 vaccination programme has started this week in Somerset. More than eighty thousand people in the County are eligible for the jab, which includes those aged 75 and above, those with a weakened immune system, and older adult care home residents. Almost two-thirds of adults in care homes have already received their Spring booster. To book an appointment go to the NHS Somerset website.

Road users in Chard are being told to plan their journeys carefully while investigation work on the sewer system closes two routes in the centre of the town. From this week, sections of Glynswood and Furnham Road are shut to through traffic during weekdays between 09.30 am and 3.30 pm. The closures are due to last three weeks to allow Wessex Water to survey the sewer network.

Yeovil Town play a ‘must win’ game away against Wrexham tonight knowing that anything less than an outright win will see them relegated from the National League. Wrexham, who are in the top spot in the National League, need three points from the game to maintain their challenge to take the title and win automatic promotion to League Two.
