One of Chard’s oldest businesses is closing its production facility in the town. Brecknell Willis on the Millfield Industrial Estate manufacture electrical components for the railway industry and has operated in Chard since 1854. The company is part of the Wabtec Group and says the production facility in Chard will transfer to its other plants but that it will retain an engineering, project management, and sales department in Chard.

Somerset's Police and Crime Commissioner, Mark Shelford, has welcomed the government taking action to tackle antisocial behaviour. Under the plans, the use of Nitrous Oxide or laughing gas for recreational purposes will be banned, and there'll be larger fines for fly-tipping.

A Somerset man has been banned from driving for six months for using a mobile phone while in charge of a motor vehicle. Christian Hall of West End in Street was also fined £230 and ordered to pay costs of £85.

South Petherton Post Office has reopened at a new location. The new Post Office is located at the convenience store on St James Street and replaces the old post office, also in St James Street, that closed last September. The branch is open Monday to Friday 9 am until 5 pm and Saturdays from 9 am until midday.

Police are appealing for help in identifying a man, wanted in relation to a burglary in Yeovil. The incident happened at around 11 pm on Sunday 19th March in the Preston Grove area. A video of the man carrying out the break-in can be viewed on the Avon and Somerset Police website. If you can help[, you’re asked to call the non-emergency number 101.
