Ninety-two per cent of children starting secondary school this September are being offered places at their first choice school according to Somerset County Council. Letters are being sent out by post this week. The council says it's dealt with more than 4,600 applications, the largest number ever received, ninety-eight per cent of all children have been offered one of their top three schools. Places at junior and primary schools will be announced next month.

Police have been granted an extension to a closure order on a property in Yeovil. In November, a three month closure order was granted on 61 Marl Close following reports of antisocial behaviour and disorder. That order has now been extended by another three months after local residents reported a return to normality in the neighbourhood.

Farmers have the chance this week to bid for funds to help with environmental issues on their land. £60,000 is available to help with things like flooding and pollution. The auction is being run by Somerset Rivers Authority in partnership with the Farming and Wildlife Group, South West.

Applications are open to be a lifeguard on Somerset’s beaches this year. It's the 20th year the RNLI has been saving lives along the Burnham on Sea and Berrow coastline. Anyone who wants to apply must have a Beach lifeguard
award. The deadline for applications is the 4th April.

Lovers of Italian food will be able to visit a popular Yeovil restaurant for outdoor dining from next month. ASK Italian says it will be re-opening in Princes Street for al fresco dining beginning from Monday April 12th.

Yeovil Town are in action tonight. They’re playing away at Barnet in the National League. It’s a fixture that has been postponed twice due to the pandemic. Kick-off is 7.45 pm and the game can be watched live online. For details on how to view the game go to the Barnet FC website.
