    Maiden Beech Academy in Crewkerne has retained its 'good' Ofsted rating. The school that caters to children aged 9 -13 was rated good in all areas following an inspection in February. The report said the school, which has 383 children, had a 'harmonious' atmosphere. It said that leaders had devised a broad curriculum that benefited from the strong subject knowledge of the staff. Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities thrived at the school. Across the curriculum, lessons enriched pupils’ understanding of the world around them.

    A local man has raised £12,000 for Ukraine by selling his motorbike. Malcolm Rivers who lives in Shepton Beauchamp sold his Kawasaki KZ100 through Aspire Competitions of Yeovil with the proceeds going towards the relief effort for Ukraine. Two-and-a-half thousand pounds have been raised in the village of Neroche near Ilminster for Ukraine. Eight hundred pounds was collected by children at Neroche Primary School and a further two thousand five hundred pounds through a quiz night held at the local pub, The Bell.

Homes and businesses in Ilminster were left underwater last year following heavy rain and a yellow weather warning from the Met Office. The Town Council’s looking for a team of volunteers in Station Road and Ditton Street where last year’s floods were at their worst.

    Tickets are on sale for a fundraising match in memory of former Yeovil Town player, Adam Stansfield, who died of bowel cancer twelve years ago. A team of Yeovil Town Legends will play South West Legends at Huish Park on Saturday, 14th May to raise funds for cancer charities. 

    Eight-year-old, Eleanor Foxx-Neal, a pupil at St Bartholomew’s First School in Crewkerne, has won a competition, naming a new housing development. Eleanor’s suggestion of calling the development in Station Road, Wool Gardens, based on Crewkerne’s historic reputation for sheep farming and wool production, won her first prize in the competition, organized by housebuilder, Taylor Wimpey.
