A drop-in is being held today in Podimore, offering advice to people affected by last month’s major flood event in South Somerset. A second drop-in is being held in North Cadbury on Monday. The events are organized by Somerset Council and the Environment Agency. Lead Member for Environment and Climate Change at Somerset Council, Councillor Sarah Dyke, says they’ll be gathering information to find ways of minimizing the impact of future major flood events.

People in South Somerset who haven't had their bins collected this week are being asked to be patient. Somerset Waste Partnership says some collections have been missed due to the bank holiday, to larger than normal amounts of cardboard and garden waste being left for collection, and to vehicles breaking down. SWP says extra crews are out collecting cardboard separately in some areas this week.

The driver and passenger of a car had a lucky escape when their vehicle crashed two meters down into a garden in Ilminster. One of the occupants had to be cut free by the fire service. Both were treated at the scene for shock but otherwise were unhurt.

Thousands of hospital patients in Somerset have been allowed home sooner than planned thanks to the success of a scheme launched three years. The 'Discharge to Assess' scheme is run by health and social care professionals and gives support to people at home after they have left hospital.

Strawberry growers in Somerset say this year’s crop should taste a lot sweeter. Jan Butterley from Nynehead Fruit says due to the cooler weather in early Spring that slowed the ripening process, this year's strawberries have turned out to be bigger and juicier.
