A local councillor has come to the aid of a Ukrainian family living near Wincanton by gifting them a car. Councillor Gerard Tucker, a member of South Somerset District Council, read about the family not having transport to get to work and decided to donate a Renault Clio that belonged to his mother and that he longer needed. Susanna and Dimitro, who came to live in Horsington six weeks ago say the car has provided them with a lifeline.

There’s been a sharp increase in the number of people injured in e-scooter accidents, including in Yeovil, which is one of 30 places nationally taking part in a trial scheme using e-scooters. In 2020, eight people were injured in collisions involving e-scooters across the Avon and Somerset Police area but last year that figure rose to ninety-six. Some of the accidents involved privately owned e-scooters. Injuries included cuts, bruising, and sprains. More serious injuries include head injuries and broken arms and legs.

Police are appealing for witnesses to an accident in which a woman driver was seriously injured. It happened at around 2.30 pm on Sunday, June 5th when a blue Volkswagen Transporter van and a blue Fiat Panda collided at the junction of Forest Mill Lane and the A303 at Horton Cross. Any who saw what happened or has dash cam footage is asked to call 101.

Avon and Somerset Police are encouraging dog owners to protect their pets from theft by joining a DNA database. From next week, owners will be able to have their pets' profiles recorded on a police-protected DNA national database. In the event of a dog being stolen, its DNA will be checked, enabling officers to identify the rightful owner and return the pet. The kits are priced at £74.99 and are available from https://www.dnaprotected.co.uk/

A farm with more than 36 acres of land and several large barns at West Coker has been put up for auction. Wooden Top Farm at West Coker Hill is being sold at auction on Thursday, June 16th, with a guide price of £400,000. The selling agents say it’s likely to appeal to those seeking pastureland, a smallholding, storage or some form of conversion project, subject to the necessary planning consent.
