As schools in South Somerset return for the new term, teaching unions have raised concerns around a lack of safety measures around Covid. They say children could end up missing out on time at school because safeguards in place are inadequate. However, schools Minister Nick Gibb says parents should feel assured that classrooms are safe.

Members of Somerset County Council meet today to discuss selling off more of the County Farm Estate. Over the past five-years, the County Council has raised £24 million pounds through the sale of farmland and buildings.

Four people have been arrested in connection with a disturbance in Yeovil. Police arrived in a riot van to break up the fighting in Newton Road that resulted in one man being taken to hospital with injuries.

Three men have been arrested on suspicion of theft after farm vehicles, plant equipment and a horse were stolen from Tintinhull near Yeovil. The items were later recovered by police from a site in Martock following a tip-off from a member of the public through the Farm Watch network. The men have since been released pending further investigation.

Tributes have been paid to a former Leader of South Somerset District Council who has died following a long illness. Tim Carroll was the Leader of South Somerset District Council between 2001 and 2004 and again from 2006 to 2011. Tim also represented the Wincanton and Bruton division on Somerset County Council between 1993 and 2005, serving as portfolio holder for the environment and transport.

Two members of the Chard Rotary Club have embarked on a one hundred and fifty-mile walk for charity. Paul Arnold and Club President Peter Stefanovic are walking between three hospices in Bristol, North Devon and Cornwall, all belonging to Children's Hospice South West.
