A Chard woman is demanding urgent action to stop her home from flooding. Charlotte Pike's house flooded in June and her garden has flooded twice more since. Meanwhile, 70 members of the public attended a meeting of Chard Town Council earlier this week to protest about the flooding in Chard. Local Mayor, Jason Baker told them that a lot of work was being done to keep the town safe from flooding.

It’s been announced that the name of the new council for Somerset will be Somerset Council. The unitary authority will be responsible for running all council services in the County beginning from April 2023 by which time Somerset’s four district councils and the County Council will have been abolished.

A public inquiry into plans to build 200 new homes near Castle Cary railway station enters a second day today. South Somerset District Council rejected the plans saying building a further 200 houses in Castle Cary would overburden the local infrastructure.

Ash Church of England Primary School near Martock has been rated as ‘requiring improvement’ following an inspection by Ofsted. Inspectors found the school required improvement in every category including the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, leadership and management and early years provision. A new headteacher was appointed to run Ash Primary School in September last year.

A new food hall and cafe has opened in the Quedam Shopping Centre in Yeovil. The Fresh Local and Wild shop has opened in the space previously occupied by the Top Shop store.
