A Somerset group that sends supplies to Ukraine is appealing for donations. ‘Somerset Aid for Ukraine’ sends food, medicine, and supplies to soldiers and civilians. They have another shipment leaving for Ukraine on the 21st of January. Organisers say they urgently need help with paying for the cost of the transport.

Plans have been submitted to convert a former Co-op store in Wincanton into new residential dwellings. The applicants, Hopkins Developments Ltd, want to turn the building on the High Street into five apartments and build five new homes on the adjoining land.

The go-ahead has been given to convert a prominent town centre building in Sherborne into a shop and “self-service” hotel. The three-storey building in Cheap Street was previously a NatWest bank.

Chard Town Football Club is looking for a new Team Manager. Ashley Fussell, who had been the Manager for six-years, and his assistant, Gary Warren, have both resigned. Their last game in charge should have been last weekend’s fixture against Wells City Reserves but the game wasn’t played due to bad weather.

Today is the deadline to apply to the Woodland Trust’s ‘Great Tree Giveaway. The conservation charity is giving away thousands of trees to schools and communities to help the UK reach its carbon net-zero target by 2050. To apply go to the Woodland Trust website.

A cheese manufacturer based in Cricket St Thomas, near Chard, has been given permission to extend its factory. Lubborn Cheese Ltd says the extension to its factory at Manor Farm will allow it to install new automated equipment and step-up production.
