Higher rates of Covid in Somerset are a result of faulty PCR test results, according to Somerset County Council. 43,000 people in England and Wales were wrongly told their Covid tests were negative due to errors at a private lab. The County Council says people were wrongly told they didn’t have the Covid 19, they then didn’t isolate, spreading the virus around their local communities. The Taunton and West Somerset area now has the 3rd highest Covid rates in England.

There’s been a resurgence in booking holiday breaks in the County. The Professional Association of Self Caterers says visitor numbers to the County this year are up 40 percent, compared to 2019.

A new block of flats could be built in Yeovil. Plans have been submitted to build nine flats at Everton Road in the Hendford area. The corner plot site is currently used as a builder's yard. It’s expected South Somerset District Council will make a decision on the application before the end of the year.

Work to replace telegraph poles in the Jubilee Woods area of West Crescent, Ilminster is due to start next month. Western Power says some trees planted to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012 will be relocated due to their proximity to power lines.
