Drivers belonging to the RMT at Buses for Somerset are involved in a second day of strike action today in their ongoing dispute over pay and conditions. Passengers are being told to expect delays and cancellations, with many routes across the County impacted. Somerset Buses claim that the RMT failed to share two improved pay offers with the drivers. The union denied the claim.
New figures have shown no real improvement in waiting times at A&E departments in Yeovil and Taunton. Data for June shows two out of every five patients attending A&E at Yeovil Hospital and Musgrove Park Hospital waited more than four hours to be seen. NHS Somerset says frontline teams continue to work under significant pressure but recognises that waiting times are far from what they should be.
Police in Yeovil confiscated a motorbike that was being ridden without insurance. Officers seized the machine following reports of it being ridden on public footpaths in Ninesprings Country Park. Police say the rider was arrested for various driving offences, including driving while under the influence of illegal substances.
