A car has been destroyed by fire in Yeovil and dog owners are being urged to keep their pets on leads, after a number of attacks on sheep.

A public health consultant at Somerset County Council says coronavirus cases continue to fall in the county. Catherine Falconer says the 7-day rate currently stands at 31 cases per 100-thousand population. She says more testing is being done because children have gone back to school.

Meanwhile, the County Council is reminding people of the importance of taking a Covid test. Around 1-in-3 people carrying the Coronavirus don’t have symptoms. Somerset's Director of Public Health, Trudi Grant, is asking people to take-up the free tests to help break the chain of transmission and keep schools, colleges, and workplaces, Covid free.

A South Petherton man has been ordered to pay compensation and comply with a curfew, after damaging a car. Kallum Ford of West End Close will be under a curfew for 8-weeks with electronic monitoring, after pleading guilty to the offence. He also pleaded guilty to sending a message that was grossly offensive. He was told to pay compensation of £154 a victim surcharge of £95 and £40 in costs.

A car has been destroyed by fire in Yeovil. It happened in Brunswick Street, off the town centre, on Monday night. The fire service has not confirmed what caused the blaze.

Dog owners are being urged to keep their pets on leads, after a number of attacks on sheep. It follows an incident in which seven pregnant ewes were killed by a dog in Devon last week. Police are reminding owners that it's a criminal offence to let a dog chase sheep.
