    The Chair of Ilminster Carnival Committee says carnival clubs are struggling with funding and the rising costs to put on events this year. Ilminster Carnival returns on Saturday, October 1st, after an absence of three years due to Covid. Kym Toms says the procession will be smaller than those of previous years.

    Work has started on the final phase to improve the look of Fore Street in Chard. The scheme, which forms part of a multi-million-pound project to re-energize Chard town centre, follows the completion of improvement works in Holyrood Street, Boden Street, and the Eastern Gateway in Chard.

    Farmers in Somerset are waiting to find out how a government review of farm subsidies could affect them. Environmental groups worry the government could water down the payments scheme, designed to replace the EU's common agricultural policy. 

    Work’s been completed building a new playground at Shepton Beauchamp Church School in Shepton Beauchamp. The new play area includes a new decking and new all-weather surface pathways for bikes and trikes.

    The family of a man who died in a crash near Chard on Saturday afternoon has thanked those who cared for him after the collision. 74-year-old Nigel Gillard died after his Triumph Sprint motorcycle collided with a blue Fiat Panda at the A30 junction near Cricket St Thomas. Officers investigating the collision have appealed for witnesses and dash cam footage.

    Vandals have struck again at Ilminster Recreation ground. This time, the damage has been caused to two doors inside the public toilets. Ilminster Town Council is advising people not to use the toilets until the doors have been replaced.

    Staff at Leonardo helicopters in Yeovil have presented a cheque for £88,000 to the Yeovil Hospital Breast Cancer Unit Appeal. The money was raised by members of the Leonardo Yeovil Trainee Charity and Social Committee. Once built, the new breast cancer unit will bring together Yeovil Hospital’s breast cancer services under one roof.
