The Chief Executive of the UK Homecare Association, based in Somerton, is calling for key workers to be given priority access to fuel at garages. Dr Jane Townson, says with garages not offering fuel, journeys by care workers to people at home have become difficult. Meanwhile, the fuel crisis is impacting on the work of Yeovil Freewheelers who deliver vital blood and medical equipment to NHS sites across the South of England.

Plans to build a new breast care unit at Yeovil Hospital have been submitted to South Somerset District Council. The unit, which is the result of a fundraising campaign that raised more than £1 million, will offer women a 'one-stop-shop for treatment, rather than being cared for across different departments at Yeovil Hospital.

A Yeovil man has appeared in court charged with burglary and interfering with a motor vehicle. Liam Raybould of West Hendford, was refused bail and remanded in custody. The charges relate to an alleged incident on Glenville Road, Yeovil, last Sunday.

Almost 500 new Covid cases were confirmed in Somerset on Monday this week. These latest figures from NHS England showed that 88 cases were in South Somerset. The total number of Covid cases in South Somerset, since the start of the pandemic, now stands at 11,697.

Plans have been submitted for the second change of use on the former NatWest bank building in South Petherton. Permission was granted in August to convert the ground floor to a restaurant and the first floor for an assembly room. Now, the owners propose converting the first floor into seven bedrooms instead.

Crewkerne Young Farmers have announced the venue for their annual ploughing challenge. It’ll be held at the Hinton Park Estate, near Hinton St George on Saturday, October 2nd, with competitors from as far away as Cornwall taking part.
