A Yeovil man has appeared in court charged with possession of a hunting knife in a public place without good reason or legal authority. A project has been launched aimed at encouraging people in Chard and Ilminster to grow sunflowers.

Yeovil has a new Mayor. Councillor Evie Potts-Jones was voted into the role unopposed at a meeting last night of the Town Council. She takes over from Councillor David Recardo who held the position for three years. Councillor Andy Kendall is the new Deputy Mayor. Councillor Evie Potts-Jones has chosen the military charity, SSAFA, and Mind Somerset, as her charities of the year and will raise funds for the two organisations.

A man has been arrested for staging a protest by blocking a road in Sherborne. Michael Fox sat in Half Moon Street blocking traffic for around 45 minutes. Fox said he staged the protest because he wants the government to do more to tackle global warming. In a statement, Dorset Police said it seeks to facilitate peaceful protests but has a duty to consider the safety of road users and the general public, including the protestors involved.

A business in Somerton has won a Queen's Award. Tellurium Q Limited was chosen for exporting activities. Geoff Merrigan of Tellurium Q Limited says their biggest export market is China where the business has built trust and loyalty.

A Yeovil man has appeared in court charged with possession of a hunting knife in a public place without good reason or legal authority. Terry Frost of Fielding Road, Yeovil, pleaded guilty to the charge and was made the subject of a community order and told to pay costs of £45.

A project has been launched aimed at encouraging people in Chard and Ilminster to grow sunflowers. ‘Sunflowers of Somerset’ is a new initiative to have sunflower seeds planted all around the two towns. If you’d like to take part you can collect packs of Sunflower seeds from the Post Office in Horton; Cottage Flowers, the Kitchen, the Minster, and the Arts Centre in Ilminster; the Green House at Dillington, the Village Shop in Seavington, and Cornerways Flower shop in Chard.
